Description:

The Lorne Community Hospital, located in Albert Street, Lorne, provides a range of high quality Health, Aged and Community Care services.

The project was commissioned to redevelop the hospital site and to provide contemporary healthcare facilities.

The new development includes facilities for: private practitioners (General Practice and Allied Health Services); Community Health; District Nursing services; Nursing Home; Urgent Care Service; X-Ray; treatment /resuscitation room; six acute bed ward; haemodialysis unit; staff and guest accommodation; administration and adequate off-street car parking.

As the hospital is still located on the original site, the design and construction was complicated by the need to keep the hospital operational, while the new buildings were being constructed in a compact and steep area.

Services:
BRT were engaged as the Services Consultants to provide all of the building services including:
• Mechanical
• Fire
• Transportation
• Electrical
• Telecommunications
• Hydraulic
• Energy and ESD.

Some of the special features incorporated into the design were:
• energy efficient air-conditioning systems with environmentally friendly refrigerants
• solar hot water
• internet telephony
• energy efficient and long-life lighting
• comprehensive, computerized building management (BMS) system to optimise performance and to allow the operation and supervision of these services to be performed remotely.
